Websites are a form of advertisement and hence a majority of websites typically comes from people running a business or people having an entrepreneurial idea. It is true that often people with a passion also create websites and blogs , which are run with a passion on a particular topic and not necessarily with an intention to generate primary source of income. But I can tell you that from experience even such people, once they get a taste of income trickling in, they turn towards making making money online from the same passion. Bloggers become paid content writers, promoters of third party products and affiliate marketers. Forum owners become hungry for endorsing links , gaining from Adsense and related revenue streams, banner advertisements. Movie buffs writing reviews out of passion for movies and actors or actresses look for syndicating their content and ghost writing services.

And I believe none of this is wrong. If you can make money online by using your skills , nothing wrong with it . But while you are at it , please remember to include 5 essential items in your business website.

A direct contact or Enquiry form : Many people can get an amazing website designed by a professional web development company , but often mistake by having no proper Contact page. A contact page should not only have your Email address and Phone number if possible , but also a Enquiry form which allows your visitors to send their comments , which will again be connected to your email address.

A portfolio section : A prominently marked Portfolio section, which openly showcases your products or services. If you are a product manufacturer , this area should be a gallery of your products. If you are in the service Business , see if you can icon-ize your offerings and list their benefits and your USP. If you are just a Blog writer, link to your best content or testimonials from your clients.

Traffic Tracking Code – Yes , I can see many of you raising your eyebrows, wondering how can I expect all website owners who are not tech savvy , to understand tracking codes and installation of such. If you can not do it yourself , just hire someone for 5 USD / Rs.200 but don’t go on without doing so . Traffic tracking code is available for free from service providers like Google Analytics , Statcounter.com etc, which helps you find out where are your website visitors coming from , how many in a day , week or month etc , which pages they are visiting and which page is getting no visitors at all and much more interesting facts about your website.

Profile Section / About : A business can be a 1 man company / service provider or a 1000 person entity. But all websites should try to show forth what their profile is. If the business is only of one person, or a family run business, you can highlight your qualifications and past experience. And if the website is of a large enterprise, it should mention about their work force, the top management and work policy and hr policy etc. Whoever your buyers might be , they are always interested to know and learn about whom they are buying from.

Sitemap – It does not matter if your website is a 5 page brochure or a 200 page ecommerce catalogue or a 50,000 post filled message board. In order to be accessible to all your visitors , display openly a well formed and regularly updated website Sitemap . In order to submit this to search engines like Google , Yahoo or Bing, you might want to create an XML sitemap . But at the very least , surely try to keep a HTML only sitemap . So that people who does not want to scroll through every page on your website , can go to the sitemap and click on the page he/she feels interest in.

There are many more equally important or lesser important items probably , but next time you think of creating or updating your business website , have a look at this ckeck-list and see if you have all of these items in your website. And do let me know if you would have added anything or replaced anything in this list .

Some of the well known video streaming platforms have been really excellent choices for video SEO because of their exposure, their allowance on meta data feed and not to be forgetten their highly intelligent automatic sitemap integration capabilities and a few more. Some are okay and a few are exceptionally good, while a handfull are there whereby if you want to optimize video for your website, you would find no option but to cross them off the list. Unfortunately, Viddler is one of those video streaming and hosting platforms that hardly work out well when it comes to video optimization. Viddler is one the nicest platforms I have ever come across, because of many advantages like clearer clips, lower buffer time, than some of its competitors. All the more Viddler has been uniquely designed to come up with highly demanding features like video commenting capabilities, downloading feature at same resolution and clearance etc. Viddler offers some excellent values to the business by offering solutions like custom logo at $100 per month for the “Business” version or commercial license. But even after providing with all these exceptional features, Viddler does not work at all if you are planning to optimize it for getting video search results for your business website site. Since you cannot optimize Viddler video embeds on your own website, you may want to spare a second thought about whether the unique features of viddler are really worthy enough to buy them at $100 per month. What does it actually mean when I say you cannot optimize Viddler video embeds? Well, if you have studies well, I am sure you you have noticed Viddler.com itself does show up very well in Google video and universal search results. But no search engine including Google has ever shown up videos embedded from Viddler for the domains that have embedded Viddler code. I am talking about the ability of the viddler users who embed viddler video in their web pages and want to optimize the videos with a hope that the search engine will show up videos embedded from Viddler for the web pages having Viddler video embedded. So why does this happen? Technical reason is involved! Viddler has blocked the search engine bots from accessing the player using robots.txt on their CDN. which resists the search engines to crawl or index the Uniform Resource Locators of Viddler players. If you have to do VSEO for your website, viddler is yet not a wise option to pick.

The news that Facebook Places goes live in the United Kingdom has created a buzz across the web. The location feature of Facebook has launched its location feature in the UK today (Friday, September 17, 2010). Having this unique feature rolled out for UK, Facebook is experimentating on it, which indicates it may or may not be available for all globally immediately.

You can check out the feature by tapping on the Facebook Places option on your Facebook for iPhone app, or on Facebook’s mobile site touch.facebook.com.

So what this Facebook Places all about?

It’s a simple feature, which allows its user to check into real-world demographic locations through the Facebook profile of a user. Well I found this functionality of Facebook mush close to what has been offered by Foursquare. What do you think about it?

So eventually after long time Digg is working on some new Design and neater interface. You can glimpse the new Digg website at New.Digg.com. You will find the New Design, New Buttons, neater interface and more. The new Website is not yet accessible currently but you can access it by New.Digg.com and signup for the previews of the new Digg features.
The new Digg was first revealed in March by previous CEO Jay Adelson, who has since paced down. Later, Digg founder Kevin Rose took over as CEO as the company focuses on building a more Twitter-like experience to finding out content.
In a signal that the launch of the new type of Digg is imminent, the social media company has turned off new user registrations for Digg.com.
To know more about the new version of Digg, visit Digg.com/register and you’ll be greeted with a note saying that the new Digg is coming, and prompting would-be new users to sign up for e-mail notifications for the relaunch of the social news service. Digg is probably porting facts and figures over from the previous version of Digg to the new one and doesn’t desire to depart out new users in the switch.
Its heard from a source that there is a lot of pressure on Kevin Rose and the Digg team to get this relaunch perfectly since Digg has been gradually losing users for the last year. I , for one, as a part of WEBSYS social media team, am looking anxiously towards what will happen next and how to benefit from it , while working on Search Engine Optimization and Internet Marketing at WEBSYS.

Case Study and past SEO portfolio of WEBSYS - Jus Novum Continue reading →

The SEO department of Websys has experienced a commendable growth in the last couple of months. With over 29 successful projects in the past 8 months (both Indian and International clients) we have succeeded to put bright curves on our clients’ faces. Malini Chakravorty the admin of Jus Novum – Lawyers Junction is one such name who has praised for the SEO done for their website http://www.jusnovum.com/
Today’s post is about the SEO case study of Jusnovum, which will give an insight of our performance and illustration as a service provider of SEO services India.
The Company – Jus Novum – the Lawers’ Junction, which is a law firm in Kolkata, India offering wide range of legal services under one shade, apart from Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) and Law coaching is located in 46/1A, Raja S.C. Mullick Road, Kolkata- 700032.

The Challenge – On the onset of the SEO project, we noticed that the site wasn’t structurally fit for effective optimization. After the critical analysis of the website structure we came up with the conclusion that the site required to be re-structured, which wasn’t 100% possible. That was probably the biggest challenge we faced while starting off with SEO for the official website of the law firm. The site was allowed to be re-structured, although to a very limited extent, which helped us, but not to the extent we desired. Another big challenge faced was that their site had lots of errors and incorrect HTML, which prevents the growth of any website on the major search engines – especially Google. The textual content of the website wasn’t appropriate also! To put things in simple and crispy language, no work had ever been done for the official website of Jus Novum to get good Search Engine rankings.

Plan of Action- For all local and foreign SEO clients, we start with a pre analysis, where we learn from the client – details of their company, their services and offerings and their competitors. Jus Novum’s case was no exception. We had run a pre-analysis report, showing the site’s current state, the current traffic, link popularity, how many pages of the site were indexed etc, alongside the competition analysis, keyword analysis etc. After getting the approval of our keyword suggestion for the site we started working on 6 primary keywords.

Implementation and Work flow -

With the onset of the work we took a backup of all the existing pages, and started making changes for the site’s structure, according to the chalked out SEO plan.

The content developer at Websys worked on developing entirely fresh content for the site. The most unique thing in here is that the concerned person at Jus Novum had lent us much of her precious time to help us developing the content, and explaining us the legal technicalities involved thereby. We owe a heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Team SEO, for her stretched out helping hands.

On-page was done quite effectively, keeping in mind prevailing algorithmic trend. This took us quite good volume of time to complete the entire on-page task for the website.

The ranking couldn’t be achieved with just well optimized content and putting effective meta attributes. The strategic plan formulated for the site’s SEO at our internal meeting was found highly effective, while on the move.

A round of manual link building helped us also gain relevance. Believe me… not much submissions were required. Just a set of strategic link generation plan is the secret of our success story!

Results -

It is our pleasure to say that our client http://www.jusnovum.com currently ranks at

legal outsourcing Kolkata #2 and #3

legal process outsourcing Kolkata #1 and #2

legal services and solutions in India #1

commercial lawyers in Kolkata #1 and #2

consumer dispute lawyer Kolkata #7

law coaching centers in Kolkata #7

professional law firms in Kolkata #4 and #5

At a search event held on 20-07-2010 at San Francisco, Google launched a new product called Google Image Search Ads as a part of Google Images. Basically, this would allow anyone or everyone to advertise alongside Google Image searches in a more widely and visually.

According to the director of search products Ben Ling,“This allows you to reach hundreds of million of users who are searching on Google on a daily basis.” And Google Images is actually doing over a billion page views a day, as said by Google.

The ads will appear along the top of image search which would contain both image and text. These won’t interfere with organic search results at all, Google says. They will be clearly marked as sponsored links, with a different color background, Google’s VP of search product and user experience Marissa Mayer says.

Mayer also added that there have always been ads along Google Images, but this is taking it to the next level with the thumbnails. And actually, certain select retailers have been able to use thumbnails with the help of Google before, but now with the launch of this product anyone can use these new image ads.

For the time being, these ads will only appear on the page for Google Image search, but Ling said they’ll explore rolling the ads out to other Search products eventually. According to Google this new image search will begin rolling out to users (about 10% have it right now). The roll-out will continue throughout this week. This product will work in “modern browsers” — which is Google’s cute way of saying “all browsers by IE 6.”

The launch of Google Image Search Ads is the biggest change since it launched in 2001 which comes alongside with a largest revamp of Google Images. Now users would have a sky limit scrolling and much bigger thumbnails than before.

Basically, this would allow anyone or everyone to advertise alongside Google Image searches in a more widely and visually.

According to the director of search products Ben Ling,“This allows you to reach hundreds of million of users who are searching on Google on a daily basis.” And Google Images is actually doing over a billion pageviews a day, as said by Google.

There is a buzz going around that Google may launch a Facebook clone called “Google Me”. The huge rumor is spread after Digg CEO Kevin Rose tweeted a few weeks ago about developing a social network by Google. Even Adam D’Angelo, founder of Q&A service Quora, claimed the news to be a real project and Google CEO Eric Schmidt hasn’t denied these reports yet. To add some more spice into it, it is heard from a source that Google is now conducting focus groups to gather information about consumers’ social habits.

According to a source, Google is asking people to conduct a small survey to verify their eligibility for a “usability study” with Google and such tipster’s study is to take place shortly at the Google’s Office in Dublin, Ireland. The duration of such study would be 60 minutes and the participants receiving 60 Euros. The questionnaires focus around and relate both offline and online life of social networking. The line of questioning also seems to reflect Google’s social strategy and analysis that was unveiled in a recent presentation by Paul Adams, lead user-experience researcher of Google.

It’s not new for Google to conduct such type of surveys before launching current or future products and so its not surprising for me. Even there’s no doubt that Google is seriously thinking about social networking. But it makes me think that, why the hell would Google try to launch a new social network when they already have Orkut? They could easily re-modify and upgrade it according to the users’ choices. What do you guys think? Though such survey does not confirm the launching of “Google Me” we all have to wait and watch what exactly the search engine giants has to offers us. We, being a provider of SEO services India, are keeping our finger crossed to see what Google Me brings in for our clients!

We will expect your comments in this regard

A Quick Look to Top 10 SEO Tips

To endure in the ever changing e-marketing world and get ahead in the competition, nearly every e-commerce enterprise and small business are using Search Engine Optimization techniques. While the stack of SEO tips are many, choosing the best scheme is tough, as there is no single fit-for-all technique. Ideally you should have rudimentary information of SEO and try to be equipped with the trends on this field. Here are some of the important and effective SEO tips bordered for you.

1) Before trying ANY strategy, it is advisable to know your present rank of your site.

Google Analytics – comes free with your gmail account . Link.

Statcounter – free hit counter , easy to use.

Alexa Toolbar and Compete.com – View ranking trends and many more.

2. Keyword consciousness is one of the best SEO tips. You may need to work on the content, HTML, image title or URLs by using apt keywords. So before embarking upon optimizing your website on any given keyword set, always remember to rethink about your target users – what they would be searching with, try to visit as many competitor websites as possible , review what keywords they are targeting.
If possible , try to take upon a small PPC campaign to see what keywords are more costly – which would in turn mean , those keywords get real customers.

3. Creating a good Sitemap for your website will help visitors to reach to a particular web page in few clicks. Even search engine spiders will index maximum number of pages on your site without much effort.

4. It does not matter if your website consists of static HTML pages or Dynamic database drivem or CMS generated pages. The given URL should be sensible and easily readable. It’s suggested to create URL based on keywords to make it more SEO friendly. Take this urls of this blog for example or our website.

5. Change or refresh the content of your website on regular intervals. Content that best recounts its service along with explanatory data & images can makes the website more useful and relevant to image searches as well.

6. Build relevant back links to your primary pages while composing new content. It should not cross the limitations and all the internal links should be incorporated properly. In order to get backlinks , use one way directories, industry portals, client websites and any other contextual websites you find.

7. Share and display your contact details like office addresses, phone numbers and so on in an organized way so that your user could get the proper idea of your office location and would find it easy to contact you in order to buy your product or service. If after all SEO efforts , your visitor does not find your contact details, what is the use ?
Also keeping such contact details also helps getting listed in Local directories, online yellow pages and classifieds websites.

8. Do not try to over do any SEO tricks or tips . One of the biggest mistake of rookie SEO is to not understand the proper necessity or usage of any particular activity . If ever in doubt , always look for professional help. Getting penalized by Search engines is easy and it may have long lasting effect on your search engine rankings and business from the web.

9. If you have some technical knowledge about HTML and coding , try to make your website using semantic coding – XHTML based, CSS based and w3C compliant.

10. Try to keep your content unique – while not all products and services pages can be unique , it might be more meaningful to have less number of pages than having hundreds of pages with non-unique content that already exists on other websites known to Google , Bing and other search engines, as they will probably not try to index the same on yours.

How is it going guys? I am sure you are awaiting the next release of SEO Case Study of Websys, but I am sorry again for I am not done with it yet. So how did you find my post on Benefits of Twitter? Well, I have decided to put forth some common misconceptions about Search Engine Optimisation. Being an internet marketing professional for years now I have come across a set of out of the whack wrong conceptions about SEO – the subject matter.

SEO is all highly technical - Yes and no both! Just a part of the entire Search Engine Optimisation process is technical… not the whole. With experience in SEO, I think major part of SEO process demands the skill set to have a systematic approaches to optimise your website. Getting top ranks in the major search engines actually requires very little work with backend programing or HTML. Effective strides have to be made through different tactics and approaches to reach out to the right kind of audiences, which definitely requires a strong hand on internet marketing. However, SEO is a constantly evolving topic, and hence requires diligent people, who can both think in and out of the box.

SEO should happen overnight – Some of our clients ask for an overnight rise of their website across the web. SEO requires a great deal of work, strategies and implementation of the strategies, hence demands intense labour and dedication. It may take time to get things move towards the desired direction. It is actually a continuous process with consistent effort to be laid while implementing the best suited strategy for a website to be ranked in the top results in Google. Various offsite factors is part of the total SEO plan- Google updating their index, various other directories and blogs accepting your submissions, the authority of the other websites , who may or may not link to you , change in Search Engine algorithms.

SEO is for one time – Well, this may sound weird to many people who have been planning to optimize their website. We, at Websys, make it openly evident that is not so… the more you keep on optimizing your website, the better it stands to compete on the search engines AND remain and retain the rankings. Yes, we do sometimes may need to change our strategies as and when necessary, we do stop certain things and start new things, we do sometimes put less emphasis on on-site and more on others, but we really do not recommend on stopping an active SEO campaign. If you have really decided to take the plunge and increase traffic and improve your position on Google, Yahoo or Bing, stick to it . There are always your competitors – who will cross you the chance they get .

SEO is ONLY about bringing a website amongst the top 10 – No! Ranking should not be the only goal for the search engine optimization process. Building up the traffic strength is what website owners should aim for. This can be done only over time. If your search engine optimizer is getting you at the first page of search engines, but not increasing your traffic and inquiries or sales, then you should really reconsider what you are paying for.

You can do SEO by using a software – To be very candid, search engine optimization is not a software program’s cup of tea. Software doesn’t have logic as human brain. Since there’s no single strategy to fit all websites, hence strategies are to be developed in logical manner. This is where the role of a real online marketer comes to play. I have used entirely a different tactics to optimize and promote outside broadcast vehicles website from what I have used for promoting packaging raw materials website. SEO tools however are not unknown – there are plenty of great SEO tools, which can be used to research backinks, analyze urls, create reports, find broken links and much much more . But SEO tools however should not be used or entirely trusted to create SEO friendly pages, submit to directories and so forth.

These are just a few of the many most popular misconceptions of internet marketing and search engine optimisation. Stay tuned… up next, the case studies on recent achievements of the internet marketing department at Websys. Till then, have a great day!
