Boi Bangla is a dynamic website run by a group of enthusiastic book lovers based in Kolkata and Hyderabad. The aim is to reach out to the book loving Bengalis scattered all over India. Boibangla’s website has been custom made for a comforting customer experience.

Websys has completed the web designing and web development project for Boi Bangla. It was a great experience to work for Boi Bangla. It’s an online book selling platform. Users can purchase their best books by searching through categories. User can search by author or publisher to look for the right one. In the left panel there is also a category where book by subject can be searched. An artist panel has also been integrated where the writers can upload and review any book after full registration. Normal users can review and buy books. Users can purchase book through CC Avenue payment gateway which has been integrated within the website.

We are thankful to Boi Bangla for the time and support. They were at our doorstep whenever we needed them for resources to make the look and feel of the website better than the best.

If you’re an enterprise with more than 10 users, Google’s free app service is no more a free service available to you. You will have to forget the thought from now. The search engine giant Google has mentioned on its enterprise blog, that enterprise with more than 10 users will have to avail for their paid service i.e. Google Apps for Business. This new rule will come to effect from May 10, 2011.

The existing users of Google’s app services will remain aloof from the payments, and can expand their user base up to 50 without additional charges. The groups with less than 10 users will continue to enjoy free app services by Google. The new charges include a US$50 per-user annual plan, or users could pick a no-contract US$5 per-user, per-month “flexible plan”.

The service will be billed by Google at the end of every month and is currently being offered as direct debit in 8 countries – the US, the UK, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. An enterprising brand otherwise, this move by Google was triggered post disappointing shares figures that it put up on the board. It is now concentrating on simplifying the setup wizard of the business app services which should be, according to the blog post, up and running soon.

You have uploaded your website and you love it. But did you ever thought, what your customers think about your website? Whenever we create a website, it’s of no doubt that we create it with our own choices and preferences. From design to navigation, we decide all. But if you still find that your site traffic is low, then do not panic but take a closer look at your site. A few free changes to your website would result to drastic improvements.

When people visit your site, they are looking for solutions. Give them all the necessary information they are looking for so that they do not go elsewhere. It’s very important to be focused on your business offers and answer your customer’s queries immediately.

It is very important to keep your website hassle free and simple for your site visitors to know what you have to offer in just a few seconds. Provide the most important information at the top of your screen so that it avoids your visitors to scroll down. Put ample space between headlines, paragraphs and graphics. Your website should be easy to navigate and read.

Content is one of the most important parts of the website. Try to write your content simple so that it’s understandable for all type of visitors. Your content should be free from grammatical and spelling mistakes. Such mistakes create a bad impression on your visitors and the site may look unprofessional.

Last but not least, provide value and an easy way for your visitors to find answers, and you’ll significantly improve the overall results of your website without spending a lot of money.

Websites are a form of advertisement and hence a majority of websites typically comes from people running a business or people having an entrepreneurial idea. It is true that often people with a passion also create websites and blogs , which are run with a passion on a particular topic and not necessarily with an intention to generate primary source of income. But I can tell you that from experience even such people, once they get a taste of income trickling in, they turn towards making making money online from the same passion. Bloggers become paid content writers, promoters of third party products and affiliate marketers. Forum owners become hungry for endorsing links , gaining from Adsense and related revenue streams, banner advertisements. Movie buffs writing reviews out of passion for movies and actors or actresses look for syndicating their content and ghost writing services.

And I believe none of this is wrong. If you can make money online by using your skills , nothing wrong with it . But while you are at it , please remember to include 5 essential items in your business website.

A direct contact or Enquiry form : Many people can get an amazing website designed by a professional web development company , but often mistake by having no proper Contact page. A contact page should not only have your Email address and Phone number if possible , but also a Enquiry form which allows your visitors to send their comments , which will again be connected to your email address.

A portfolio section : A prominently marked Portfolio section, which openly showcases your products or services. If you are a product manufacturer , this area should be a gallery of your products. If you are in the service Business , see if you can icon-ize your offerings and list their benefits and your USP. If you are just a Blog writer, link to your best content or testimonials from your clients.

Traffic Tracking Code – Yes , I can see many of you raising your eyebrows, wondering how can I expect all website owners who are not tech savvy , to understand tracking codes and installation of such. If you can not do it yourself , just hire someone for 5 USD / Rs.200 but don’t go on without doing so . Traffic tracking code is available for free from service providers like Google Analytics , Statcounter.com etc, which helps you find out where are your website visitors coming from , how many in a day , week or month etc , which pages they are visiting and which page is getting no visitors at all and much more interesting facts about your website.

Profile Section / About : A business can be a 1 man company / service provider or a 1000 person entity. But all websites should try to show forth what their profile is. If the business is only of one person, or a family run business, you can highlight your qualifications and past experience. And if the website is of a large enterprise, it should mention about their work force, the top management and work policy and hr policy etc. Whoever your buyers might be , they are always interested to know and learn about whom they are buying from.

Sitemap – It does not matter if your website is a 5 page brochure or a 200 page ecommerce catalogue or a 50,000 post filled message board. In order to be accessible to all your visitors , display openly a well formed and regularly updated website Sitemap . In order to submit this to search engines like Google , Yahoo or Bing, you might want to create an XML sitemap . But at the very least , surely try to keep a HTML only sitemap . So that people who does not want to scroll through every page on your website , can go to the sitemap and click on the page he/she feels interest in.

There are many more equally important or lesser important items probably , but next time you think of creating or updating your business website , have a look at this ckeck-list and see if you have all of these items in your website. And do let me know if you would have added anything or replaced anything in this list .

Are you a website owner ? Have you paid money to get your website built or website developed previously ? Here are few things you must remember to do , if you have not done already. The tips are nothing new and not very hard to do . All that is required is that your website is your own property , which can only work wonders if you want it to . This is the Part 1 of our discussion on Loving your Website. We would love to have your feedback through comments here.

Your website involves 3 primary factors -

The domain name

The server where it is uploaded,

The webpages – html , php , asp and if any database exists

Domain Name – is the least costly part of your website , but by real value , it is of much higher. Once your website design is complete, and uploaded , all your visitors will know it by this name. Your site will be promoted using this url and it might be also printed on all your stationery , online and offline and media advertisements. As the legal owner of the Domain Name, remember to ensure that the Domain is Registered in your own name. The Technical Contact can be your Domain Name Service provider or website Designer, but the Registrant and Administrative or Billing Contact should always be you. So that , you are able to always gain access to it , if necessary for Legal issues, for Selling it , For changing your web design or Hosting company .

When a domain name is registered, an email is always generated which includes the URL where the domain name can be administered, along with the username and password. Request this email , if you have not received it already. Once you have this, check inside the Admin Panel for the Domain Name if there is an option to LOCK the domain name or Apply Theft Protection. This is an option , which prevents inadvertent transfer of Domain Name from your control.

As mentioned before, also ensure that you are mentioned as the Billing Contact as well , as some Domain Registration companies send online mailers only reminding you of a Pending payment, and do not call you personally . If you get a Payment reminder, try to make this payment well before the Domain’s expiry date. Because once a domain gets expired, you not only are at risk of loosing the name , you would not be able to get the domain renewed by another provider different than the current one.

Another day , another website design. WEBSYS as a company strives to offer its very best to all customers. May be this is one of the major reason why today Websys has marked its own identity. Few days back Websys was requested by Imore, which deals with mobile phones, to do the designing and web development for the company.

Imore is primarily a retail store which sells Imore mobile phones providing consumers with excellent products and fostering a wide range at lowest price possible. This is the 2nd time , we are working for the company owner , who has been our client as well in the past.

As a website for a mobile phone retail store in Kolkata, the site features numerous product photographs with the phone specifications. Where web development is concerned the entire
website has been programmed by PHP. Though the entire site is static, the entire product section is dynamic, as per the client’s requirement.

Since the last 9 years of being in the industry as a web development company in India, Websys have accomplished great varieties of projects related to website development. Just before Durga Puja, we have completed few website development assignments, worth mentioning. KALYANI MISSION FOR INDIA is one of them.

Let’s talk a bit about the business. KALYANI MISSION FOR INDIA is an agent of the most reputable insurance companies like Birla Sun Life Insurance Company Ltd., Bajaj Allianz, and Aviva Life Insurance. KALYANI MISSION FOR INDIA has come up with a mission to give all the insurers a steady flight of financial freedom through different business ventures, thereby helping its insurers make a hike on their income.

This is an MLM website and developing it required a good deal of understanding of how the company works. The calculations playing behind the earning of each insurer is really brain storming, which required a rigorous pre-development analysis. Our experienced php developers worked really hard and had had number of meetings with Kalyani Mission team to get a good understanding on how their different schemes work, what kind of calculations would need to be stored and what sort of reports were to be generated on the MLM website.

Kalyani Mission for India had their website design done previously which was nothing more than a profile page of a company. The new MLM website has been enhanced with the entire set of features that an actual MLM site of this kind should have. As a result, within a month’s time there have been as many as 700 registrations through the site, which gave their management / owners overall profit a desirable boost.

Upcoming launch of Digg.com , the social news gatherer. Continue reading →

So eventually after long time Digg is working on some new Design and neater interface. You can glimpse the new Digg website at New.Digg.com. You will find the New Design, New Buttons, neater interface and more. The new Website is not yet accessible currently but you can access it by New.Digg.com and signup for the previews of the new Digg features.
The new Digg was first revealed in March by previous CEO Jay Adelson, who has since paced down. Later, Digg founder Kevin Rose took over as CEO as the company focuses on building a more Twitter-like experience to finding out content.
In a signal that the launch of the new type of Digg is imminent, the social media company has turned off new user registrations for Digg.com.
To know more about the new version of Digg, visit Digg.com/register and you’ll be greeted with a note saying that the new Digg is coming, and prompting would-be new users to sign up for e-mail notifications for the relaunch of the social news service. Digg is probably porting facts and figures over from the previous version of Digg to the new one and doesn’t desire to depart out new users in the switch.
Its heard from a source that there is a lot of pressure on Kevin Rose and the Digg team to get this relaunch perfectly since Digg has been gradually losing users for the last year.

There is a buzz going around that Google may launch a Facebook clone called “Google Me”. The huge rumor is spread after Digg CEO Kevin Rose tweeted a few weeks ago about developing a social network by Google. Even Adam D’Angelo, founder of Q&A service Quora, claimed the news to be a real project and Google CEO Eric Schmidt hasn’t denied these reports yet. To add some more spice into it, it is heard from a source that Google is now conducting focus groups to gather information about consumers’ social habits.

According to a source, Google is asking people to conduct a small survey to verify their eligibility for a “usability study” with Google and such tipster’s study is to take place shortly at the Google’s Office in Dublin, Ireland. The duration of such study would be 60 minutes and the participants receiving 60 Euros. The questionnaires focus around and relate both offline and online life of social networking. The line of questioning also seems to reflect Google’s social strategy and analysis that was unveiled in a recent presentation by Paul Adams, lead user-experience researcher of Google.

It’s not new for Google to conduct such type of surveys before launching current or future products and so its not surprising for me. Even there’s no doubt that Google is seriously thinking about social networking. But it makes me think that, why the hell would Google try to launch a new social network when they already have Orkut? They could easily re-modify and upgrade it according to the users’ choices. What do you guys think? Though such survey does not confirm the launching of “Google Me” we all have to wait and watch what exactly the search engine giants has to offers us. We, being a provider of SEO services India, are keeping our finger crossed to see what Google Me brings in for our clients!

We will expect your comments in this regard

We are currently living in an age where people have less and less time every day. Hence we zap through web pages anticipating to find precisely what we desire as fast as possible. Why not? There are so hundreds of web pages on every topic. According to statistics, the average web surfer gives less than 10 seconds on a web site. If 10 seconds is all you have to influence your online prospect, guess what sort of web design makes most impact? The most flashy web design? May be not. Try simplicity.
So are we talking of a crude design or no design at all – definitely not. Attractive design still makes a person stop. Neither does this signify that the back end of the web site requires to be simple. You can have the most complex content administration system; the most comprehensive feature set in your web design, but hold the front end, the interface as simple and intuitive as you can and think of usability for the surfer.
Simple can signify different things to different web designers. Many persons like fancy things. There is nothing wrong in applying with a splash of color on a web design. At the same time, avoid altering too much from the accepted paths. We all speak of change and identify its advantages but we are animals of habit and we would rather proceed along the same easy route rather search for new way of getting somewhere. This standard applies in web design. Online clients are used to navigating in a certain way. Change the way on your web design and you could make it too hard for your clients.
Keep it simple, short and familiar. While it can be useful to have a plethora of features and functionality on your own website, but maintain a balance of what is necessary for you and your users, which could easily vary from your competitor’s website users.

It is often a common practice/ demand for many of our clients of web design in India to have the exact same features he/she has seen elsewhere. It’s innate to believe that the more number of options you invest in, the more it will awe your customers. But, it is not always the case. Sometimes the simplest features, pays you back more on a simplistic approach to web design.
