Benefits of using Twitter

Dear  visitors, hope all of you are good. My last post on SEO Case Study has earned a pretty good amount of traffic. I am honored that our readers have gone through the first of the series. I was quite surprised to see emails requesting more SEO case studies. Well, I will surely come up with series of CS on the projects that I have been in charge of at Websys. Let’s talks about a bit different things today, such as micro blogging tool called Twitter.

So, why should you use twitter? I’ve faced questions like this a multiple times as I am part of the Search Engine Marketing industry. I thought I’d now write a post answering why I use twitter! Let me not hide and seek and be very candid… my reason of using twitter actually depends on the types of audiences I have wanted to reach. Frankly, twitter is going to hardly appeal to my school days teachers and my parents and grandparents, but might more be common among web savvy people, who have interest in staying regularly updated, web promotion professionals and news buffs !

So, here’s why you should stop by twitter while you move on with your day’s work.

Building network of followers: I would always suggest you build a sound online persona, whatever job you are into. Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, a owner of a company/business or an internet marketing professional like me, building up a strong network across the web is of utmost significance, if you are looking for ways to make business online. Twitter is just one of the few great platforms that can generate relevant traffic. Building a network of followers can help you generate interest. With your twitter account, if you post helpful tips, offer useful advice for free – your network of followers might turn into customers. Some might even retweet your messages , thus spreading your message to more probable customers.

Source your information on twitter: Pre Twitter era, web professionals, internet surfers used to surf the net to read blogs in hope of finding newer information, updates on various topics. Post twitter era – with the arrival of micro blogging , people who have less time to read and sometimes interests – they get to stay updated just by following news sources such as tv websites, reporters, bloggers, sportsmen, public figures and even their friends’ profiles.

Business development: Twitter has ushered in a new way of getting business and business leads. There are so many people who often update their status on Facebook and Twitter. When they are in need of a solution, they truly update their status hoping to find recommendations on service providers, product selling websites and bug fixing. I myself have done it quite a few times … when I was looking for recommendations on buying a new AC and a new 32″ Television, I got suggested some model numbers and store names. A few days back, a web design agency in London was looking for a outsourcing partner in India, and one of his friends recommended Websys i.e. us.

Branding and Reputation Management: If you are somehow related to business, chances are there you have a website or at least a blog. Alongside other online media channels like social networking sites, forums etc. twitter can be a great platform to reinforce your branding online. That is what we have found to have really clicked with twitter. Nowadays, large corporates and local service providers also have dedicated team of agents scanning twitterosphere . When I was having trouble with my ICICI account, and I vented my anger about ICICI on my twitter status – suddenly i got a more personalized reply than I managed by going through their helpline number . :)

Direct traffic and new visits: This is probably what you have been thinking of if you are an online business or have a website or blog! I have been working as an Internet marketing professional since years and now I am happily working with Websys. In the time, I try to post links to our latest web development projects and websites for which we have ranked #1 in Google. I have happily noticed that we generate quite a bit of traffic from these links as well.

SEO Case Study – Wallbeauty

As our SEO division develops, and so does our Indian SEO clients, I have taken up work of offering some case studies which would illustrate our SEO services in India. It goes without saying, we are also offering Search Engine Optimization and Social Media Marketing for various clients who need SEO in UK, USA etc. I will be posting such case studies as well soon.

The Company – Wall Beauty Decorum / Burhani Decorators is a well known retail outlet for gorgeous Indian and imported wallpapers. Located in Rippon Street, Kolkata.

The Challenge – On the onset of the seo project, we noticed that the site had very little text based content. Much of their website was formed with images of their products, and graphical design.
Apart from this, the site also had lots of errors and incompatible HTML. And, lastly, the site did not have a Google Local listing either. Simply put, no work had been done ever on the site for making it visible on Search Engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing/MSN.

Plan of Action- For all local seo clients, we start with a pre analysis , where we learn from the client – details of their company, their products and offerings, services if any and their competitors. In the Pre-Analysis, we showed the site’s current state, the current traffic ( if available through Google Analytics) , link popularity , how many pages of the site are currently indexed etc. We also had a Keyword session after viewing the competitive websites , with the client to confirm on what keywords we can work on, what he wants etc. Here , we also decided that the site needed to be submitted to various trade directories .

Implementation and Work flow -

  • Once we were ready and had the client’s permission, we started by taking a backup of all the existing pages, and started making changes for OnPage optimisation.
  • This involves working on image optimization, alt tags, page titles, meta descriptions and generating sitemaps
  • We followed it up with generating proper website content which matched the meta tags and initiated a process of getting links for the same
  • A round of manual directory submission and local listings helped us also gain relevance

Annual picnic at Diyara

Hi, today I am here to share the overwhelming experience of our annual picnic trip to Wonderland at Diyara, just a few kilometers past NH6. The day was 16 Jan. We were so excited that we were making plans many days prior to the picnic. We had a lot to decide – where to go, the time, what sports equipment to take and what each would carry in their backpacks, the venue, the menu et al. It was a joint effort of all the senior executives of our office, who supervised all the arrangements from selecting the spot for picnic, arranging the vehicles to deciding on every little details important for the successful completion of the trip. All of us would however gather at one place during lunch hour and debate upon the menu of the picnic lunch. It was so much fun! You know what … the menu had changed thousand and one time before the final delicacy list was concluded. And yet there was still doubt about the menu on the minds of some of us until we gorged it all till the last morsel and certified it the best ever menu we have ever had! Ha ha ha…

The picnic spot was amidst a beautiful village thriving with natural beauties. It was “all play and no work” day for all of us. We organized games and enjoyed chatting with our fellow picnickers. We played pranks on each other and fought with them, ran, played and laughed at each other’s stupidest jokes. Some of my colleagues went out and got back with a red plastic football that toddlers play with. My God! How hard they kicked on the poor soft thing, which was too light and would go no more than a few centimeters! When bored of poking the poor football, we all went and tried making friendship with fellow picnickers just so we got to play with their cricket set. In our devious minds we knew all we had to do to borrow their bat was to challenge them to beat us in the game!

For me, it was nothing short of my school days picnic experience and I could not imagine that most of us are by now over 25 and 30 , some even married and we were no longer kids. Have you ever seen a grown up getting scared of boating in the lake? We laughed our hearts out on seeing some of our colleagues scared of getting down to row on the water. However, once they overcame the fear, all wanted to paddle more and more and we spent a large amount of time on boating. We took some rest on the shades and had our tea break. One of the best enjoyments came till the last hour on the picnic day. The amusement park which was just beside had a place called Iceland. When we entered, all we could see was a dark room with lots of shadows of people and some dim lights. Once we were all in, the disco lights came on and we could see that we were standing on a dance floor. And then without any warning we were in the middle of a snow blizzard. Ice cold snows were being hurled towards our faces and the dance music started. Can you believe it – everyone got in the groove and started dancing even while in the middle of a snow storm of sorts, forgetting the risk of the slippery floor.

By the time we came out, the evening sun had already dawned. Packing all the memories of the trip, we boarded our bus in the evening to come back home. We were dead tired, but not short of energy. Thankfully, the next day was a Sunday. We could take some much needed rest to get back afresh on Monday.

Next Monday was a rejuvenated day for all of us. All of us were back with new energy although the picnic hangover was with us all. Anyway, picnic is behind us and we are working full-fledged, have had completed some of our projects, while working on some important ones presently. Every other day a new project is reaching us with its unique needs and web strategies. You can say, we are back on track; geared up to serve you with your web development and internet marketing needs. I’ll tell you a secret, although the Websys team is constantly expanding for more website work, many of us also view this as a opportunity for having more fun on trips and excursions like this. I think next in plan is a trip to Digha.

As mentioned in my previous post, there have been extensive development in our SEO ivision. The year 2010 is going to be extremely vital for the company, as numerous plans have been taken up and implemented for providing  ourselves as highly developed SEO company.

With a view to widen up the operation we now have experienced and dedicated  SEO professionals to promote through Social Media channels. Plans for 2010 – SEO

A new year and our first post on the blog for 2010. We have been increasing tremendously over the past few months, and I am happy to say, the focus has been in growing as a SEO company. In the past few months, I have seen my colleagues have developed several ecommerce websites, dynamic CMS driven business websites for clients, built Facebook applications and created various new designs.

But what has really kept me excited is that we are expanding more and more as a Seo and Internet Marketing company. When I started this division at Websys, our initial projects were some link building projects. We are still doing link building from clients who outsource such seo projects to us. But we are covering article writing, blog posting, doing PPC , ranking various clients websites for competitive keywords and since the last few months, have taken upon doing social media promotion for various UK, US based clients and their websites. This is what excites me .

It has been decided that , this year our focus would be in completing successful SEO campaigns for our local Kolkata based customers, as well as building up relations with various Internet marketing firms internationally. Every month we are taking on new Seo professionals in our team to cope up with the newer projects, and as I speak a vacancy exists for anyone with basic knowledge about social promotion.

Holidays for Durga Puja

It would not be worthwhile to blog about Durga Puja unless I also given idea what it is . As many of you will know, Indians historically have been very religious people -  theoretically having over 33,000 Gods and Goddesses. Goddess Durga is one of the main deities amongst Bengalis, who symbolises a Female power who freed the earth and heaven from evil, mythologically. We celebrate her coming to earth and her stay for 5 days with us mortals – starting with MahaShashti, and bid her farewell on the Bijoya Dashami . On this auspicious day she leaves for heaven.

Beyond mythology , this time is also celebrated as one of the biggest social events. People from all parts of the country and abroad as well , come back home to celebrate this joyous occasions. Roads and localities light up in full brightness, colorful pandals and gorgeous deities. People get out in the streets to enjoy and watch all these , meet up with their friends and relatives and sit down in adda.

New laptops and ID cards
